Lebob is a school robotics team from Perth, Western Australia. We compete in FIRST LEGO League as team 3236 and FIRST Tech Challenge as team 37323. In 2025 we won the FIRST LEGO League National Championship West, then competed at the 2026 Korea Open Invitational in South Korea.
We build and program competition robots, and we run an engineering research project alongside the robot each season. Our current project is SoftSense, a soft gripper for recovering fragile artefacts from the seafloor.
We publish the work rather than keeping it. Every document from the 2025/26 season is readable in full on this site, alongside the original PDFs, and our code is public in the Lebob-Robotics GitHub organisation. As we put it in our robot design documentation, all our repositories are public, which means other FLL teams can explore our robot code, website projects and pathfinding experiments for inspiration.

We compete in two FIRST programmes and carry a separate number in each. 3236 is our FIRST LEGO League number, and it appears as the running header, TEAM LEBOB #3236, throughout our internationals robot design documentation. 37323 is our FIRST Tech Challenge number.

Jade and Kaelie mentor and coach the team. Under our decision-making protocol the mentors have observer roles but not voting roles: day-to-day technical decisions are made by whoever owns that work package, and anything touching more than one workstream goes to a team vote with a simple majority.
The 2026 Korea Open campaign ran across 49 logged sessions between January and June 2026, either full Saturdays or Thursday afternoons. Attendance across the eight members ranged from 89.8 to 98.0 per cent.

The season ran from a regional tournament hosted by Aquinas College in Salter Point through to the National Championship West, the Western Australian national championship, run at Curtin University's Bentley campus each December. Winning that is what took us to Jeonju, where more than 50 teams from over 45 countries competed across three days at Jeonju National University of Education.
The robot game plan for the Korea Open was built up to a maximum score of 545 points across seven runs, grouping missions by proximity so the robot completes several in one trip. The code is Python on PyBricks, structured with a drive base class, a mission control class that renders the hub menu, and missions registered through a decorator. The repository carries over 500 commits.
We learned to keep records the hard way. In our robot design journal we wrote that in the past we did not keep proper records of our testing or progress, and that this season we kept a real logbook, which gave us clear proof of what we tried, what worked and how we improved. SoftSense is our innovation project: a soft, sensing gripper that mounts onto an existing ROV manipulator arm so archaeologists can lift fragile artefacts off the seabed without crushing them. The fingers are passive Fin Ray trusses printed in TPU that wrap around whatever shape they meet, and the gripper reads its own grip force from the actuator's motor current rather than from any sensor at the fingertip.
It was reviewed by working subsea engineers, a practising maritime archaeologist and three Western Australian subsea operators, and it won a prize at the 2026 Korea Open. Read the full write up, or go straight to the engineering documentation.

Lebob won the FIRST LEGO League National Championship West at Curtin University on 13 December 2025, taking the Western Australian national title in the UNEARTHED season. That result took the team to the Korea Open Invitational in Jeonju, South Korea, where its innovation project SoftSense won a prize.
SoftSense is Lebob's innovation project: a 3D printed soft gripper that bolts onto an existing ROV manipulator arm so archaeologists can lift fragile artefacts off the seabed without crushing them. It has no force sensor. It reads grip force from the actuator's own motor current instead.
SoftSense reads the actuator's motor current, multiplies by the torque constant, and traces that back through the drivetrain to recover an estimated tip force. That removes every wire and connector from the fingertip, which is the part hardest to seal underwater, and the same channel also protects the printed gears.
